# Interest in a Free Zoom class or two?

Crude oil comes in to an Oil Refinery and then is processed thru a distillation unit. A 'control room' operator then sets their unit's control valves to insure that the process is done to their desire. Their may be thousands of control valves to set. What is or should be the objective in processing crude oil? What parameters affect the goal/objective? If a company has more than one processing location, does location of processing affect one's goal? Consider Supply vs. Demand of output (oil) products, does either play a role in processing oil?
• Required: 10+ years of work experience.
Have a curve fitting problem? Is it Non-linear, Sinusoidal, Decaying, etc? If so, this class should get you going with a good math model. The class will cover what to look for in a data set and decide what curve series may fit the data.
Calculus-level languages removes the need for users to write their own numerical methods. Users just call a numerical method by name that is stored in a compiler library. Nice and simple from a users stand point. This is all possible do to Automatic Differentiation (AD) capability that NASA's Apollo Space program developed in the 1960s. Read our Casebook titled "Engineering Design Optimization using Calculus-Level Methods; A Casebook Approach". Their are some 20+ Engineering and Science problems showing their math problem and Optimal solution. Plus, a little write-up / intro to each problem.
Have need for a Pulse Shaping Filter program that finds the pole-zero locations of a transfer function, H(s), for a matched-filter design. H(s) equals a -desired- signal (Yout) divided by a given input signal (Yin). Both Yout and Yin are functions of frequency. H(s) may have equal sidelobe peak amplitudes in a Bode plot; i.e., Peak i = Peak j for all i, j.

Group delay may also be calculated to compliment a given data set, thus, providing a flat group delay.

• Requirements: Must understand Bode Plots and Transfer Function, H(s), and meaning of Poles/Zeroes.

Solving Differential Equations and Systems: Boundary (BVP) & Initial Value Problems (IVP); Non-linear; Implicit; and any order or degree.
• Requirements: Must have had a week+ of class on 'Ordinary Differential Equations'.
Editing for beginners on a Windows OS Computer. Learn basic e-mail reply skills for working in industry. You receive an e-mail with several questions included, how to respond to each question on an individual bases.

Learn how the numeric keys are used to move about an e-mail or file. Say, there are a dozen or so numeric keys. Add the Ctrl key along with another 'normal' key and now you have doubled the number of key commands to use when editing. Next, add the Alt key and you'll have many more key commands to choose from. Why use one editor over the others?

This class will require 3 to 6 one-hour sessions.

• Before class: Download and install the NotePad++ editor, it's free. It makes editing relatively easy. Multiple files may be edited at once, nice. It shows when things are in balance.
